Frank Lamzik scored all 12 of his points during a crucial second half performance while leading Fort Zumwalt South to its fourth straight St. Dominic Christmas Tournament championship with a 53-46 win over Ritenour.
But his biggest contribution to the success of his team came when the 6-foot-3 senior guard grabbed a rebound under the Ritenour basket and fed 6-7 sophomore teammate Chris Weinstock for the go-ahead bucket and a 44-43 Bulldog advantage with 2:46 remaining in the title game.
Lamzik stretched the Bulldog advantage to 47-43 after making a free throw following a technical foul on the Ritenour bench and a jumper.
Fort Zumwalt South trailed 26-22 at the intermission and 38-34 going into the final quarter before Lamzik tallied eight points in the final frame. The Bulldogs outscored Ritenour 19-8 during the game’s final eight minutes.
St. Dominic nudged Holt 56-55 in overtime to claim the tournament’s consolation championship.
Lamzik joined teammate Jim Thomas on the all-tournament team. Ritenour’s Corey Allen and Travion Brownlee were selected to represent the runner-up Huskies. Thomas tallied 9 points in the championship game. Allen and Brownlee led the Huskies with 13 and 8 points respectively.
More on this week’s tournament championship games will be published next week.
