The biggest upset of the week belonged to Veterans Memorial, who took down 721st ranked Valley View, 31-17. Santos Villarreal threw for 380 yards and three touchdowns and ran for 34 yards in the win.
Mission extended the longest winning streak in 4A Region IV District 32 this week by beating Edcouch-Elsa, 41-20. This was the team's fifth consecutive win.
Carlos Quintanilla was the best wideout in the league this week as Mercedes topped Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Southwest. Quintanilla racked up 10 receptions for 166 yards. Gilbert Vela helped Mercedes' passing attack out by catching three balls for 47 yards.
Isaiah Garza was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 143 yards on 13 carries as the Tigers bested Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Southwest. Teammate Mathew Guzman added to the ground attack by rushing for 108 yards.
The Patriots' Villarreal and Isaac Guerrero have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading 4A Region IV District 32 in both passing and receiving yards. Villarreal has thrown for 1263 yards this season, while Guerrero has 23 catches for 472 yards. Mercedes' Guzman leads the league in rushing yards with 658.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Roma takes on Mission. The Gladiators have allowed 71 points this season, while Mario Pena's team has given up 70.
Veterans Memorial was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from sixth to fourth in the league. Earlier in the week, David Gilpin's team triumphed over the Tigers 31-17.
