The Sparrows Point Pointers were the 72-64 winner over the Owings Mills Golden Eagles when they last played one another back in February of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. Sparrows Point took a serious blow against Owings Mills on Wednesday, falling 61-29.
Marcus Nelson continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Owings Mills, dropping a double-double on 22 points and 11 rebounds. Those 22 points set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Gariel Avelino-Tirado, who scored 11 points.
Sparrows Point bumped their record down to 1-1 with that defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 28.0 points per game. As for Owings Mills, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Sparrows Point will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Eastern Tech at 4:00 p.m. on December 15th. Hopefully Eastern Tech focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 21 on Wednesday. As for Owings Mills, they will head out on the road to face off against Chesapeake at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Maryland (Chesapeake is ranked 147th, while Owings Mills is ranked 122nd).
