For the second straight game, Mitchell will face off against Draughn. Mitchell will be playing at home against Draughn at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Mitchell is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.6 runs per game this season.
Mitchell came up short against Draughn on Tuesday, falling 11-3. The Mountaineers haven't had much luck with the Wildcats recently, as the team has come up short the last seven times they've met.
For Draughn's part, Tate Jensen made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out 13 batters over 6.2 innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits. Jensen has become a key player for Draughn: the team is undefeated when he posts at least eight strikeouts, but 3-5 otherwise. Jensen was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. That's the most runs he has posted since back in May of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Chase Yambor, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-4. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Griffin Stephens, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
Draughn kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 4.5 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matches they've averaged 9.
The win (which was Draughn's fifth in a row) raised their record to 6-5. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for Mitchell, their loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 5-5.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Mitchell has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.1 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Draughn struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.5 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
