With a playoff game on the line, the Midland Valley Mustangs rose to the challenge on Friday. They walked away with a 24-17 win over South Pointe. Midland Valley's victory was nothing new given the team hasn't lost yet this season.
Traevon Dunbar was his usual excellent self, rushing for 249 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 10.4 yards per carry.
South Pointe's lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Malachi Marshall, who threw for 151 yards and two touchdowns.
Midland Valley pushed their record up to 12-0 with that win, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-10 Swansea and 1-10 Aiken (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 41.1% over those games). As for South Pointe, their loss dropped their record down to 8-4.
Midland Valley will square off against Westside at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Westside's favor is that they have now posted big point totals in their last six matchups. South Pointe does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
