The Gateway Charter Griffins will head out to challenge the Cape Coral Seahawks at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Gateway Charter made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Lehigh, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Gateway Charter put the hurt on Lehigh with a sharp 15-3 victory on Thursday.
Denise Membrides was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and one triple. Evanna Ramirez was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2.
Gateway Charter always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .643. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lehigh only posted an OBP of .458.
Meanwhile, Cape Coral came tearing into Monday's game with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Eagles a 10-0 shutout. The Seahawks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matches by ten runs or more this season.
Emma Brannan made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 20 over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing Two bases. while going 3-for-5.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jocelyn Slater, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Brielle Pachick, who scored a run while going 3-for-3.
Cape Coral's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-3. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for Gateway Charter, the victory got them back to even at 1-1.
Gateway Charter was able to grind out a solid win over Cape Coral in their previous meeting back in March of 2022, winning 6-2. Will Gateway Charter repeat their success, or does Cape Coral have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
