In what's become a running theme this season, the Millard North Mustangs gave their fans yet another huge victory on Saturday. They really took it to Duchesne for the full four quarters, racking up a 60-20 victory at home. The match was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 34-6.
Millard North's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Avril Smith, who scored ten points along with three steals. Smith has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last 15 times she's played. Izzie Galligan was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with three steals.
Millard North used a slightly different lineup for their bout with Duchesne. And. Mallory Closman made the most of the opportunity, scoring three points along with two steals. A few more games like that and she might be seeing even more time going forward.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Duchesne struggled to work together and finished the game with only two assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Millard North pushed their record up to 14-6 with that victory, which was their 20th straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.9 points per game. As for Duchesne, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-12 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Millard North will square off against Marian at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Millard North focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up nine on Saturday. As for Duchesne, they will head out on the road to square off against Hastings at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Duchesne focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 21 on Saturday.
