The Seneca Valley Screamin' Eagles will challenge the Quince Orchard Cougars at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Seneca Valley comes in on four and Quince Orchard on three.
Seneca Valley will bounce into Friday's contest after beating Sherwood, who they had gone 0-3 against in their three prior meetings. Seneca Valley simply couldn't be stopped on Saturday as they easily beat Sherwood 64-31. The Screamin' Eagles have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five matches by 25 points or more this season.
Seneca Valley's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jayden Addison, who went 5 of 9 on her way to 13 points and six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Teagan Phillips, who posted 13 points in addition to six boards and four steals.
Seneca Valley smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in nine consecutive games dating back to last season.
Meanwhile, Quince Orchard beat Blair 47-38 on Saturday. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Cougars' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 145th, while the Blazers are ranked 48th).
Seneca Valley better focus on containing Ayanna Anspach and Evelyn Steele as the pair were huge in Quince Orchard's win. Anspach had 11 points along with five assists and five boards, while Steele put up eight points and six blocks. Steele is crushing it when it comes to blocks: she's posted at least four every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Ishani Maheshwari, who posted six points.
Quince Orchard pushed their record up to 4-3 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.8 points per game. As for Seneca Valley, their victory bumped their record up to 6-1.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Seneca Valley has crashing the boards this season, having averaged 33.6 boards per game. However, it's not like Quince Orchard struggles in that department as they've been averaging 31.4 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Everything came up roses for Seneca Valley against Quince Orchard in their previous meeting back in February, as the team secured a 71-35 win. In that contest, Seneca Valley amassed a halftime lead of 42-18, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
