Adams Central is a perfect 4-0 against Fairbury since April of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Patriots will look to defend their home field against the Jeffs at 4:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Adams Central has five straight wins, Fairbury has six straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
On Tuesday, Adams Central made easy work of St. Paul/Palmer and carried off a 9-3 victory. Considering the Patriots have won 14 matches by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Owen Brown made a big impact no matter where he played. He pitched 4.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with three RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March.
Brown wasn't the only one making solid contact as seven players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Kowen Rader, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Jaron Johnson was another, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
Adams Central hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least three batters in four consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Fairbury lost 22-1 to Hastings on Saturday.
Fairbury's defeat dropped their record down to 4-17. As for Adams Central, their win bumped their record up to 20-6.
Fairbury's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Adams Central hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .329. It's a different story for Fairbury, though, as they've only averaged .215. Will they be able to contain Adams Central's hitters?
Adams Central took their victory against Fairbury in their previous matchup back in May of 2023 by a conclusive 11-1 score. Will the Patriots repeat their success, or do the Jeffs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
