After a string of three wins, the Kokomo Wildkats's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They took a 48-39 hit to the loss column at the hands of Western. While losing is never fun, Kokomo can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 140th, while Western is ranked 25th).
When it comes to explaining why Kokomo lost, one person who can't be blamed is Aijia Elliott. Despite the final result, she scored 11 points along with 9 rebounds and 6 blocks. Elliott scored a full 28.2% of Kokomo's points, the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Regan McClain, who scored 4 points along with 5 rebounds.
Western's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Chloe Hunt led the charge by scoring 18 points along with 8 rebounds. Mackenzie York was another key contributor, scoring 7 points along with 6 assists and 5 steals.
Kokomo's loss dropped their record down to 5-3. As for Western, they pushed their record up to 9-0 with that victory, which was their fifth straight on the road.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Kokomo will challenge McCutcheon at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. McCutcheon is coming into the game hot, having won their last four games. As for Western, they will head out on the road to face off against Twin Lakes at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Twin Lakes focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Tuesday.
