Liberty and Northwest Christian School are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2019, but likely not for long. The Lancers will square off against the Crusaders at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Liberty's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Lind-Ritzville/Sprague/Washtucna with a sharp 16-0 victory. The Lancers have beaten the Broncos the last six times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Broncos has come to flipping the script.
Jordyn Jeske made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out 13 over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 13 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with four stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. That's the most stolen bases she has posted over her last 11 matchups.
In other batting news, Liberty let Sadie Stout and Aubrey Hofmann run wild. Stout fired off two home runs, three stolen bases, and five RBI while going 3-for-5, while Hofmann went 4-for-5 with one home run, three stolen bases, and four runs. Hofmann continues to improve, besting her previous run total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Heidi Stout, who went 2-for-3 with four stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
The home team had won the previous three meetings between Northwest Christian School and Chewelah, and Northwest Christian School kept the tradition alive. The Crusaders blew past the Cougars 15-0 on Tuesday.
Northwest Christian School's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-2. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for Liberty, their record is now 11-3.
Liberty came out on top in a nail-biter against Northwest Christian School in their previous matchup back in March, sneaking past 1-0. Will the Lancers repeat their success, or do the Crusaders have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
