Softball Recap: Pembroke Pines Charter Wins Going Away Against Riverdale

Pembroke Pines Charter's game last Tuesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Thursday. They blew past the Riverdale Raiders 7-1. Considering the Jaguars have won five matchups by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Destiney Ortega made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and one double. That home run marked the first that she launched this season.

In other batting news, Sofia Rodriguez was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. That triple was her first of the season. Brielle Martinez was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.

Pembroke Pines Charter's record is now 5-3. As for Riverdale, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-3.

Looking ahead, Pembroke Pines Charter will head out to face off against Schoolhouse Prep at 10:30 a.m. on Friday. Schoolhouse Prep will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something Pembroke Pines Charter surely won't give up without a fight. As for Riverdale, they will challenge South Plantation at 10:30 a.m. on Friday. Riverdale's pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so South Plantation's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
