Madison has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against the Marshall Rams at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Madison focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up nine on Wednesday.
Last Wednesday, things could have been worse for Madison, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 61-43 loss to the Rattlers.
The losing side was boosted by Evan Moreno, who scored 18 points. Elijah Pierre was another key contributor, scoring six points.
Meanwhile, Marshall's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their fifth straight loss. They took a 63-50 hit to the loss column at the hands of Lee. While losing is never fun, Marshall can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 839th, while the Volunteers are ranked 205th).
Aric Goodman put forth a good effort for the losing side as he scored 19 points along with two steals. He hasn't dropped below two steals for six straight games. Another player making a difference was Jai Lopez, who scored nine points along with six rebounds.
Madison has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 21-12 record this season. As for Marshall, their defeat was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 6-21.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Madison have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 30 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Marshall struggles in that department as they've been averaging 26.9 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Madison took their win against the Rams in their previous meeting back in January by a conclusive 78-54. Will Madison repeat their success, or do the Rams have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
