You can't lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely the Monarch Coyotes's strategy against the Prairie View Thunderhawks on Tuesday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Monarch blew Prairie View out of the water with a 69-34 final score. Given Monarch's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 45th, while Prairie View is ranked 145th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Monarch found their leader in underclassman Sienna Williams, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and 12 rebounds. Williams hasn't dropped below 15 points for six straight games. Lindsay Pleva was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds.
When it comes to explaining why Prairie View lost, one person who can't be blamed is Celicia Robles. Despite the final result, she scored 19 points along with five assists and three steals. That was a full 55.9% of Prairie View's points, marking the tenth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Paige Walker, who scored seven points along with nine rebounds.
Monarch has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 10-9 record this season. As for Prairie View, their defeat dropped their record down to an identical 10-9.
Monarch didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 55-38 win vs. Erie on the 9th. Prairie View has also already played their next game, a 63-32 loss against Broomfield on the 7th.
