Volleyball Recap: Maize Comes Up Short

Maize was the 2-1 winner over Emporia when they last played one another back in August, but their luck changed this time around. The Eagles fell just short of the Spartans by a score of 2-1 on Saturday. The Eagles' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

In a back-and-forth that saw neither team win consecutive sets, Maize sadly dropped the once that decided the match. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-14, 23-25, 25-23.

Emporia can attribute much of their success to Molly Williams, who had 17 digs and two assists. With that strong performance, Williams is now averaging an impressive 10.2 digs per game.

Maize's defeat dropped their record down to 16-18. As for Emporia, their win bumped their record up to 19-14.

Maize didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 2-0 loss against Lawrence on the 18th. As for Emporia, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 2-0 victory against Spring Hill on the 18th.
