The University Cougars had to start their season on the road on Tuesday, and it wasn't the start they were hoping for. They took a hard 51-36 fall against East River. University has struggled against East River recently, as their game on Tuesday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Several Cougars players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Laura Martinez , who scored 12 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacqueline Leap, who scored 9 points.
Keilani Serrano was the offensive standout of the matchup as she dropped a double-double on 17 points and 17 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Yariana Lugo Perez, who scored 19 points along with 6 rebounds.
University's defeat dropped their record down to 0-1. As for East River, their win bumped their record up to 1-0.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. University will take on Winter Park at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. As for East River, they will head out on the road to face off against Boone at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
