Basketball Recap: Darius Livingston's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Discovery over Gateway Charter

After flying high against Sebring last Thursday, Discovery came back down to earth. The Discovery Spartans fell just short of the Gateway Charter Griffins by a score of 69-66 on Saturday. The Spartans' defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Several Spartans players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Darius Livingston, who posted 21 points. Livingston's morning made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Jeremy Nixon, who had 15 points.

Discovery's loss dropped their record down to 14-5. As for Gateway Charter, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 14-5.

Discovery will be playing in front of their home fans against Lakeland at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Discovery knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past ten matches -- so hopefully Lakeland likes a good challenge. As for Gateway Charter, they will head out to challenge Golden Gate at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Golden Gate is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.1 points per game this season.
