The South Central Falcons will square off against the North Johnston Panthers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. South Central will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.
South Central barely beat Jacksonville the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Falcons were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over the Cardinals on Thursday.
Somer Davenport made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. Davenport was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, South Central got a massive performance out of Lacey Spivey, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one triple. That's the most runs Spivey has posted since back in March. Haven Roebuck was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI.
South Central was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .424. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Jacksonville only posted a batting average of .056.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when North Johnston challenged Farmville Central on Thursday. The Panthers fell just short of the Jaguars by a score of 5-3. The Panthers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
North Johnston saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mallori Woodard, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Samantha Boswell also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
South Central pushed their record up to 14-6 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.7 runs over those games. As for North Johnston, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-5.
South Central skirted past North Johnston 6-5 when the teams last played back in March of 2019. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Falcons since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
