The South View Tigers will face off against the Lumberton Pirates at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. South View is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.
Lumberton's hitters are going to have their work cut out for them on Tuesday: South View hadn't allowed a single run the last three times they've hit the field. South View didn't even let Douglas Byrd on the board on Friday, marking South View's second-straight 16-0 shutout. Considering the Tigers have won four games by more than nine runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
PAIGE FORD was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. FORD was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-2.
In other batting news, MADDY CLARK was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with six RBI, two doubles, and one stolen base. That stolen base was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was DESTINY SHOULARS, who scored three runs while going 2-for-2.
South View kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in four consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, it may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Lumberton ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They won by a run and slipped past Jack Britt 7-6. The win continues a trend for the Pirates in their matchups with the Buccaneers: they've now won eight in a row.
The team relied heavily on Jaelyn Hammond, who scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 1-for-4. Leea Wilkins was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-5.
South View pushed their record up to 5-0 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for Lumberton, their win bumped their record up to 2-3.
Lumberton's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: South View has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 11.2 hits per game. It's a different story for Lumberton, though, as they've been averaging 9.2 hits. Given South View's sizable advantage in that area, Lumberton will need to find a way to close that gap.
South View couldn't quite finish off Lumberton when the teams last played back in April of 2024 and fell 4-2. Can South View avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
