The Douglas County Huskies will head out on the road to challenge the Rock Canyon Jaguars at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Winning is just a little bit easier when you outrebound your opponent 14 to 6 on the offensive boards, a fact Douglas County proved on Thursday. They walked away with a 67-54 win over Ponderosa.
Sofia Baldessari was her usual excellent self, scoring 43 points along with eight rebounds and five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Megan Thorne, who scored six points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, Rock Canyon came tearing into Thursday's game with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 32.2 points) and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against Highlands Ranch by a score of 76-65.
Rock Canyon's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Brooke Harding, who scored 20 points along with four steals, and Sarah Davis, who scored 23 points along with three steals. Harding has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last 11 times she's played. Sienna Pillsbury was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with 12 rebounds and two steals.
Douglas County pushed their record up to 9-5 with that win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.8 points per game. As for Rock Canyon, their victory bumped their record up to 12-1.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Douglas County have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 33.1 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Rock Canyon struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 31.9 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Douglas County beat Rock Canyon 60-53 in their previous meeting back in January of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for Douglas County since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
