The Marshall Mavericks will face off against the Atlanta Rabbits at 12:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.
Marshall came out on top against Jefferson on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive seven-run third inning. The Mavericks blew past the Bulldogs 13-1. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Mavericks.
Ashley Mentz was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over 2.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit (and only one walk). Mentz was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with three RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Addi Watkins, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2025. Another player making a difference was Paisley Griffis, who went 1-for-2 with three runs and two RBI.
Marshall always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .700. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Jefferson only posted an OBP of .182.
Meanwhile, Atlanta never let their opponents score on Thursday. They put the hurt on New Boston with a sharp 8-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Rabbits, who have now won three matchups by eight runs or more so far this season.
Like Marshall, Atlanta also got a great game from a two-way player: Gabby Arredondo. On the mound, she pitched 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Arredondo was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI. That double marked the first that she has hit this season.
In other batting news, Ella Garrett was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. That triple was her first of the season. Aleesha Parkman was another key player, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs.
Atlanta's victory bumped their record up to 3-0-1. As for Marshall, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Marshall has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Atlanta struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Marshall came up short against Atlanta in their previous meeting back in February of 2025, falling 8-5. Can the Mavericks avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
