Croatan had won five straight on the road, but on Friday they bumped up to 9-1 to make it six. They secured a 46-42 W over the Dixon Bulldogs. Given the Cougars' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 69th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 205th) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Andrew Boucher was his usual excellent self, rushing for 184 yards and a pair of touchdowns while picking up 9.7 yards per carry. He was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 54 yards. JP Baccoli also helped with two scores in total.
Special teams also played a big role in the game for Croatan, adding 12 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Boucher, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.
As for Dixon, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-5. Despite 221 more yards than Croatan, the Bulldogs couldn't convert that extra yardage to scores.
Despite the loss, Dixon still got an impressive performance from JJ Gulat, who rushed for 253 yards and five TDs while picking up 7.7 yards per carry, and also threw for 102 yards. Gulat's rushing production has been exceptional for a while as that marked his 16th straight game with at least 103 rushing yards dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Sean Delaney, who gained 167 total yards.
As of now, neither Croatan nor Dixon have any future games scheduled.
