Two dominant forwards in Peyton Honchar and Sadie Marks are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Morgan Township Cherokees will head out on the road to take on the South Central Satellites at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Morgan Township is looking to tack on another W to their six-game streak on the road dating back to last season.
Last Thursday, things could have been worse for Morgan Township, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 50-34 loss to Tri-Township. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Morgan Township in their matchups with Tri-Township: they've now lost three in a row.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Madi Lemmons, who scored 12 points along with three steals. Another player making a difference was Honchar, who scored five points along with two steals.
Morgan Township struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only three offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, South Central entered their tilt with Lake Station Edison with six consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with seven. In a tight match that could have gone either way, South Central made off with a 42-41 win over Lake Station Edison.
It was another big night for Marks, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 16 rebounds. She is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as she's now posted two or more in the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Samantha Marks, who scored seven points along with eight rebounds.
Morgan Township's defeat dropped their record down to 13-5. As for South Central, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Morgan Township have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 29.2 rebounds per game. It's a different story for South Central, though, as they've been averaging only 27.1 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Morgan Township barely slipped by South Central when the teams last played back in December of 2023, winning 44-43. The rematch might be a little tougher for Morgan Township since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
