The Groveton Indians were the 38-36 winner over the Centerville Tigers when they last played one another back in February of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Groveton fell 55-45 to Centerville on Friday. While losing is never fun, Groveton can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1352nd, while Centerville is ranked 609th).
Wade Neyland was his usual excellent self, scoring 19 points along with eight rebounds and six steals for Centerville. That makes it five consecutive games in which Neyland has scored at least a third of Centerville's points. Another player making a difference was Trayce Schwab, who scored 15 points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Groveton has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-12 record this season. As for Centerville, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 15-5.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Groveton will square off against Leon at 6:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Leon has now lost seven straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 12. As for Centerville, they will head out on the road to square off against Latexo at 6:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Latexo is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak.
