III Section VI recap October 1, 2013
Moon Valley was the team that made the biggest jump in the rankings, moving from sixth to third in III Section VI. The Rockets beat Central 37-14 earlier in the week.
Thunderbird took down Phoenix Christian 41-14 last week, the largest margin of any game. Jake Glatting threw for 269 yards and 4 touchdowns in the win.
Emanuel Gant threw for 340 yards and 4 touchdowns. He went 16-27 with 0 interception.
Antwain Marlowe was the most successful running back in the league this week. He ran for 209 yards on 28 carries as Washington beat the Cougars. James Rasmussen also contributed to the rushing game with 53 yards on the ground.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, Tempe's Gant and Massiah Smith have proven to be a lethal combination. Gant has thrown for 1,733 yards this season, while Smith, a 6-foot-0 receiver, has 28 catches for 687 yards. Phoenix Christian's Scottie Jordan leads the league in rushing yards with 1,242.
The top two teams in III Section VI will face off this week when first place Tempe takes on second place Washington. Last week, the Buffaloes bested Shadow Mountain, while the Rams defeated Alhambra.
There should be lots of points scored when Tempe and Washington face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Brian Walker's team comes in having scored 221 this season, while Jon Becktold's team has scored 164. The Buffaloes scored 40 points last week as they beat the Matadors.
The Rams made the biggest leap in the national rankings this week, rising to 6,340 from 8,045. They were able to move up in the ranks after a 38-18 victory over the Lions last week.
