Webster County is 0-10 against Gilmer County since April of 2018 but things could change on Thursday. The Highlanders will be playing at home against the Titans at 5:00 p.m. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Having struggled with five defeats in a row, Webster County turned things around against Richwood on Tuesday. They blew past the Lumberjacks 16-1. With that victory, the Highlanders brought their scoring average up to 7.4 runs per game.

Maddox Brown made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out eight batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-4.
In other batting news, Webster County got a massive performance out of Hayden Myers, who scored four runs and stole three bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Hunter Skidmore was another key player, going 2-for-3 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one double.
Webster County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .545. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Richwood only posted an OBP of .286.
Meanwhile, Gilmer County had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Wednesday. They put the hurt on the Cavaliers with a sharp 13-3 win. The result was nothing new for the Titans, who have now won six contests by eight runs or more so far this season.
Kolten Holbert was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-4. That's the most runs he has posted since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacob Stewart, who scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-4.
Gilmer County pushed their record up to 10-2 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Webster County, their victory bumped their record up to 2-5.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Webster County has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Gilmer County struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 6.2 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
