The biggest upset of the week belonged to Avonworth, who took down 245th ranked Avonworth, 28-21. Jesse Zelonka threw for 116 yards and two touchdowns, ran for 50 yards and caught one passes for nine yards in the win.
Apollo Ridge's Tre Tipton rumbled for the longest rushing play in WPIAL A Eastern this season in his game against the Antelopes last week. Tipton ran for 85 yards on the play and finished with 112 on the day as his team defeated Avonworth.
Apollo Ridge's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Alex Smith helped Apollo Ridge's passing attack out by catching two balls for 37 yards.
Tipton was the best wideout in the league this week as John Skiba's team defeated Derek 'Duke' Johncour's team. Tipton racked up five receptions for 61 yards.
Apollo Ridge's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Vikings feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Zelonka has thrown for 661 yards and 10 touchdowns this season, while Tipton has 24 catches for 430 yards. Zelonka also leads the league in rushing with 249 yards.
A big matchup in WPIAL A Eastern this week will be when North Catholic takes on the Antelopes. The Trojans are in second place, while Avonworth is in fourth place.
The Vikings moved up to 361 from 407 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. Apollo Ridge was able to make the jump by beating the Antelopes 28-21.
