Messalonskee hasn't had much luck against Oxford Hills recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Eagles will be playing in front of their home fans against the Vikings at 4:15 p.m. Messalonskee will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
Messalonskee barely beat Skowhegan the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Eagles blew past the River Hawks 15-5 on Monday. The Eagles not only won on Monday, but they posted their biggest win since May 15, 2024 (when they won 11-0).
The team relied heavily on Parker Reynolds, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one double, and one RBI. Ty Bernier was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and two RBI.
Messalonskee was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .462. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive contests.
Oxford Hills let Hampden stack five runs on them in the third inning on Monday but luckily Oxford Hills prevailed anyway. The Vikings had just enough and edged out the Broncos 9-8.
Cam Pulkkinen was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Gabe Damon, who went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Messalonskee's win bumped their record up to 3-0. As for Oxford Hills, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.
Oxford Hills' pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Messalonskee hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .402. It's a different story for Oxford Hills, though, as they've only averaged .205. Will they be able to contain Messalonskee's hitters?
Messalonskee came out on top in a nail-biter against Oxford Hills in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, sneaking past 8-6. Do the Eagles have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Vikings turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
