Frederick (Colo.) jumped out to an early lead against
Erie (Colo.) and never looked back on the way to a 21-7 victory on Saturday.
The Warriors put up six points in the opening frame. Frederick scored on a
Jacob Sleeth touchdown run.
After taking the lead on a touchdown run by Sleeth in the first quarter, FHS led 14-0 at the half.
Joey Toney played well for the Tigers. The junior ran for one touchdown.
Jaron Balman played well for the Warriors in the victory. The senior quarterback ran for one touchdown. He has now scored three touchdowns on the season.
Erie's lone touchdown came on a 1-yard run by Toney in the fourth quarter.
Frederick had given up an average of 13.4 points prior to the contest. The seven points that EHS ended with were well below its average of 33.6 coming into the game.
A 42-21 Frederick victory was the result when the squads faced off last season.
The victory was a step in the right direction for the Warriors, which was coming off a 24-0 defeat at the hands of Silver Creek in its previous game.
Erie (4-2) will play a 3A Northern game against Holy Family next week, while Frederick (4-2) will take on Centaurus also in a 3A Northern game.
