2A - North recap October 22, 2013
North Summit extended the longest winning streak in 2A - North this week by beating Layton Christian Academy, 28-23. The win marks fourth in a row for the the Braves.
South Summit took down Millard 43-0 last week, the largest margin of any game.
Summit Academy's dynamic duo of Hagan Hines and Joe Denos proved tough for Gunnison Valley to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Hines threw for 178 yards and 2 touchdowns and Denos had 122 yards receiving. Hayden Henriod helped Summit Academy's passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 25 yards.
Ayan Burton provided a threat through the air and on the ground as the Eagles fell to North Summit. He completed 6 passes for 109 yards and 1 touchdown and also ran for 104 yards. Burton's key target this week was Bailey Kenter, who caught 3 passes for 54 yards.
Leroy Sisnett was a key player and the best on defense this week as Layton Christian Academy lost to Devin Smith's team. He racked up 1 sack.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, the Bulldogs' Tyson Moosman and Jacob Hatch have proven to be a lethal combination. 6-1 quarterback Moosman has thrown for 1,537 yards this season, while Hatch has 60 catches for 1,035 yards. Lincoln Henderson from American Leadership Academy leads the league in rushing with 905 yards.
Henderson has rushed for 905 yards on 137 carries so far this year.
Gunnison Valley made the biggest leap in the national rankings this week, rising to 10,827 from 11,283. The advance stemmed from a 31-24 victory over Summit Academy last week.
