The Mattoon Greenwave will be home for the holidays to greet the Marshall Lions at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Friday, Mattoon beat Mt. Zion 60-50. The victory was just what Mattoon needed coming off of a 72-50 defeat in their prior matchup.
Meanwhile, Marshall humbled South Vermillion with a 52-12 victory. That 52-12 margin sets a new team best for Marshall this season.
Mattoon's victory was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-1. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.9 points per game. As for Marshall, their win ended a four-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-11.
Mattoon beat Marshall 56-48 in their previous meeting back in December of 2022. Does Mattoon have another victory up their sleeve, or will Marshall turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
