Basketball Recap: Tuesday's Defeat Ends Lafayette Jefferson's Winning Streak

It was a good run, but Lafayette Jefferson unfortunately witnessed the end of their six-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell 60-50 to the McCutcheon Mavericks. The Bronchos lost against the Mavericks in their previous head to head back in December of 2023, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 58-27 score last time.

Several Bronchos players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Maya Layton, who went 9 for 21 on her way to 22 points in addition to seven rebounds and six steals. Layton is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last eight games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Shaylee Barrett, who posted nine points.

Lafayette Jefferson's loss dropped their record down to 8-2. As for McCutcheon, their victory bumped their record up to 12-2.

Lafayette Jefferson will head out to face off against Bloomington North at 12:00 p.m. on December 26th. Lafayette Jefferson is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.3 points per game this season. As for McCutcheon, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 64-24 win against Harrison on the 20th.
