The Opp Bobcats struggled with three-point shooting accuracy on Saturday (the Brantley Bulldogs were 36% better) and sadly the final score reflected it. The match between the pair wasn't particularly close, with Opp falling 47-33. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for them in their matchups with Brantley: they've now lost seven in a row.
Several Bobcats players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Cuba Wiggins, who scored four points along with eight rebounds and three blocks. Wiggins hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Dionna Stoudemire, who scored five points.
Even though they lost, Opp smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. This was only their 13th loss (out of 16 games) when they hit their own glass that hard.
Brantley found their leader in underclassman CoCo Stamps, who scored 13 points along with six rebounds and five steals. Stamps is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Alex Grimes, who scored 16 points along with six rebounds.
Opp's loss dropped their record down to 3-19. As for Brantley, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 12-8.
Opp will take on Pike County at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Alabama (Pike County is ranked 403rd, while Opp is ranked 408th). As for Brantley, they will head out on the road to take on Elba at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Elba has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 298 points over their last five matches.
