Fort Thomas is 1-9 against Superior since March of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Apaches will venture away from home to face off against the Panthers at 1:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Fort Thomas is headed into Friday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Thursday. They lost 24-12 to Pima. Even if the Apaches couldn't come away with the win, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.
Jaysla Longstreet and Leilynn Wesley stepped up to the plate in a big way. Longstreet scored a run and stole a base while going 4-for-4, while Wesley scored two runs and stole three bases while going 3-for-5. Longstreet also put up two doubles, which were her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Sadie Harvey, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one double.
Meanwhile, Superior had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by a 20-6 margin over the Lobos. The Panthers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by ten runs or more this season.
Superior let Stephanie Lopez and Faith Denogean run wild. Lopez scored four runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4, while Denogean went 2-for-3 with five RBI, two runs, and one double. With that strong performance, Lopez is now averaging an impressive 2.1 runs per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Lessenia Ramirez, who scored three runs while going 3-for-5.
Superior's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-5. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 19.3 runs over those games. As for Fort Thomas, their loss dropped their record down to 5-8.
Friday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Fort Thomas has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .621. However, it's not like Superior struggles in that department as they've averaged .480. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Fort Thomas took their victory against Superior when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 24-17 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Apaches since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
