Basketball Recap: Valentina Podolyanskaya's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Woods Charter over Triangle Math & Science

If Woods Charter was feeling good fresh off their 43-7 takedown of Carolina Friends last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Woods Charter Wolves lost to the Triangle Math & Science Tigers at home by a 32-18 margin on Tuesday. The loss continues a trend for the Wolves in their matchups with the Tigers: they've now lost five in a row.

Woods Charter lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Valentina Podolyanskaya, who posted four points and four steals. Podolyanskaya is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed four or more in the last four games she's played. Anna Robards also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Triangle Math & Science to victory, but perhaps none more so than Mennatullah Ibrahim, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten boards. Ibrahim is trending in the right direction considering she's improved her point production for three straight games. Amritha Tatineni was another key player, putting up six points in addition to eight rebounds and five assists.

Woods Charter's defeat dropped their record down to 5-4. As for Triangle Math & Science, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a massive bump to their 7-7 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Woods Charter has already played their next matchup (against Clover Garden School), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Triangle Math & Science will face off against Ascend Leadership at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Triangle Math & Science is facing Ascend Leadership at the right time seeing as Ascend Leadership is stuck on a six-game losing streak.
