Baseball Recap: Make It Four in a Row for Perquimans

Perquimans had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 3 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Wednesday. They blew past the Gates County Red Barons 14-2. The Pirates might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten matches by six runs or more this season.

Will Rucker and Maddux Thach were a major factor no matter where they played. On the mound, Rucker tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Thach pitched three innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. Rucker has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. At bat, Rucker went 1-for-5 with four RBI, while Thach scored three runs while going 2-for-5. That's the most RBI Rucker has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Jacob Askew was incredible, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs and one triple. That triple marked the first that he hit this season. Another player making a difference was Sean Saunders, who scored four runs while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.

Perquimans kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Gates County only managed six hits.

Perquimans' victory bumped their record up to 15-4. As for Gates County, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-11 record this season.

Perquimans will be playing at home against Pasquotank County at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Gates County, they will venture away from home to challenge Northeastern at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
