The Westlake Academy Blacksmiths's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight defeat. They took a serious blow against Victory Christian Academy, falling 60-26. Westlake Academy was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 38-14.
Despite the loss, Westlake Academy had strong showings from Lexi Burdick, who scored 19 points, and Cambrie Merrifield, who scored no points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Westlake Academy struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Victory Christian Academy posted 16 assists.
Leading Victory Christian Academy to victory were Ainsley Hawk and Kassie Northcutt. Hawk scored ten points along with seven rebounds and two steals, while Northcutt scored 22 points along with six rebounds and four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Northcutt has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayden Oates, who scored 15 points along with two steals.
Westlake Academy dropped their record down to 12-12 with that loss, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Victory Christian Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won 15 of their last 16 games, which provided a nice bump to their 24-3 record this season.
Westlake Academy will be playing in front of their home fans against the Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Victory Christian Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
