The Marmion Cadets will face off against the Central Rockets at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Marmion 4.1, Central 2) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Things were looking good for Marmion after they put the first runs on the board on Thursday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell 6-3 to Oswego. The Cadets have struggled against the Panthers recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.
Marmion got a good showing from Matthew Murray, who tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.
At the plate, Ethan Flores was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run and two RBI. That home run was his first of the season. Charlie Zebig was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, Central strolled into their game on Thursday with a perfect record and they left with the same. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Hinsdale South a 6-0 shutout.
Daniel Koertgen looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Central got a massive performance out of Liam Schultz, who scored a run while going 3-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Thomas Koertgen, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.
Central's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-0. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average this season. As for Marmion, their loss dropped their record down to 7-4-1.
Saturday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Marmion hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .327. However, it's not like Central struggles in that department as they've averaged .313. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
