Plainfield hasn't had much luck against Avon recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Quakers will challenge the Orioles at 4:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Plainfield 3.2, Avon 4.1) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Plainfield's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Indian Creek with a sharp 6-0 victory. The win was nothing new for the Quakers as they're now sitting on three straight.
Gavin Lykins made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two hits in six consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.

In other pitching news, Luke Warriner looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Plainfield is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 9-11 otherwise.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Ty White, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April.
Decatur Central typically has all the answers at home, but on Tuesday Avon proved too difficult a challenge. They walked away with a 7-3 victory over the Hawks. The win was familiar territory for the Orioles, who have now won three matchups in a row.
Isaac Kramer tossed a big game, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits.
On the hitting side, Avon saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brayden Salyer, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Another was Wyatt Pennington, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one double.
Avon pushed their record up to 19-11 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Plainfield, their record now sits at 15-11.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Plainfield has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.3 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Avon struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.3 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Plainfield might still be hurting after the 14-1 loss they got from Avon when the teams last played back in April. Can the Quakers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
