This season hasn't been kind to the Cusick Panthers, who are still winless after their sixth contest. They suffered a tough 48-25 defeat at the hands of Curlew on Friday. While losing is never fun, Cusick can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Washington basketball rankings (they are ranked 337th, while Curlew is ranked 80th).
Curlew found their leader in underclassman Annika Baker, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 12 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Emma Lena Baker, who scored nine points along with five rebounds and four steals.
Cusick's defeat dropped their record down to 0-6. As for Curlew, the victory was the 14th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 14-1.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cusick won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Republic at 3:45 p.m. on January 13th. As for Curlew, they will head out on the road to challenge Almira-Coulee-Hartline at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
