The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Lecanto in their matchups with Wildwood: they've now lost five in a row.
Despite the defeat, Lecanto saw an underclassman step up: Bryleigh Florio scored 13 points along with 6 steals. Florio is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Xena Bellamy was another key contributor, scoring 3 points along with 5 rebounds.
Essiance Jasper continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Wildwood, dropping a double-double on 15 points and 13 rebounds. The matchup was Jasper's fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Zaria Weaver, who scored 4 points along with 11 steals and 6 rebounds.
Lecanto's loss dropped their record down to 4-1. As for Wildwood, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 4-0.
Lecanto will be playing at home against Tavares at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Tavares will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings (they are ranked 416th, while Lecanto is ranked 130th). As for Wildwood, they will head out on the road to face off against Trinity Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Allowing an average of 54.7 points per game, Trinity Catholic has struggled on the defensive end, but that doesn't have to be the case in this match.
