The Greenbrier East Spartans will square off against the PikeView Panthers at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Greenbrier East is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.9 runs per game this season.
Things were looking good for Greenbrier East after they put the first runs on the board on Saturday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell just short of Sissonville by a score of 2-1. The game marked the Spartans' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.
Ashton Cochran was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run and stealing three bases while going 1-for-2.
Meanwhile, PikeView waltzed into their match on Friday with eight straight wins... but they left with nine. They walked away with an 8-3 win over the G-Men.
Eli Naylor made a big impact no matter where he played. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, Eli Hilling was excellent, scoring a run while going 2-for-3. What's more, he posted three RBI, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Landon Wyatt, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.
PikeView's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-1. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.6 runs over those games. As for Greenbrier East, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-4.
Monday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Greenbrier East hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .361. However, it's not like PikeView struggles in that department as they've averaged .327. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Greenbrier East skirted past PikeView 6-5 in their previous meeting back in April of 2017. Will the Spartans repeat their success, or do the Panthers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
