While it was all tied up 15-15 at halftime, the Laney Buccaneers were not quite the Topsail Pirates's equal in the second half on Friday. Laney took a 48-41 hit to the loss column at the hands of Topsail. Laney has struggled against Topsail recently, as their game on Friday was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the loss, Laney still got an impressive performance from Piper Conklin, who scored 14 points along with two steals. Another player making a difference was Tisha Mathis, who scored six points along with four steals.
Topsail found their leader in underclassman Charley Moore, who scored 17 points along with three steals. That's the first time this season that Moore scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Emmy Clark, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds.
Laney's defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-4. As for Topsail, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season.
Laney will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against North Brunswick at 6:00 p.m. North Brunswick is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses. As for Topsail, they will head out on the road to challenge Ashley at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Ashley focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 21 on Friday.
