The Timberline Blazers waltzed into their match on Friday with two straight wins but they left with three. They came out on top against Capital by a score of 63-50. Given Timberline's advantage in MaxPreps' Washington basketball rankings (they are ranked 76th, while Capital is ranked 253rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leading Timberline to victory were Darrell Gipson and Kenyon Simmons. Gipson dropped a double-double on 20 points and 15 rebounds, while Simmons scored 18 points along with nine rebounds and three steals. Gipson hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for three straight games. Kaydn Ward was another key contributor, scoring five points along with nine assists and two steals.
Timberline has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season. As for Capital, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost six of their last seven matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-11 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Timberline will square off against Central Kitsap at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Capital, they will head out on the road to take on North Thurston at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The timing is sure in North Thurston's favor as the squad sits on three straight wins at home while Capital has been banged up by five consecutive losses on the road.
