Manvel is 0-7 against Dobie since February of 2015 but things could change on Thursday. The Mavericks will look to defend their home field against the Longhorns at 6:30 p.m. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Manvel sitting on four straight wins and Dobie on three.
On Tuesday, it was close, but Manvel sidestepped Dawson for a 6-5 victory. That's two games straight that the Mavericks have won by just one run.
Kaylah Hopkins was excellent, scoring a run while going 2-for-4. Blaire Spurlock was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.
Manvel hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in four consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Dobie sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 win over Alvin on Tuesday.
Vanessa De La Fuente spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on five hits.
At the plate, Dobie's victory was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Leslie Sarduy, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI. Sarduy has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played.
Dobie's win bumped their record up to 16-10. As for Manvel, their victory bumped their record up to 14-9.
Thursday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Manvel has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .497. However, it's not like Dobie struggles in that department as they've averaged .483. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Manvel suffered a grim 14-1 defeat to Dobie in their previous matchup back in March. Will the Mavericks have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
