The Mercer County Titans pushed their score all the way to 70 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 75-70 hit to the loss column at the hands of West Jessamine. Mercer County was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as West Jessamine apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2023.
Despite the loss, Mercer County had strong showings from Ak Drakeford, who scored 32 points along with five assists and five rebounds, and Sara Dunn, who went 7 for 12 from beyond the arc en route to 21 points and 1 assist. That was a full 45.7% of Mercer County's points, marking the 13th time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Izzie Carlton, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds.
Mercer County has not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-7 record this season. As for West Jessamine, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 14-6.
Mercer County will head out on the road to face off against Green County at 11:45 a.m. on Saturday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Kentucky (Green County is ranked 100th, while Mercer County is ranked 78th). As for West Jessamine, they the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome East Jessamine at 4:30 p.m. on January 27th. East Jessamine has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
