Softball Recap: Hurley Find Success

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Early, Hurley was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 11-10 victory over the Wheaton Bulldogs. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Tigers also won the last time the pair played back in March of 2024.

Addy Maxwell was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and nine unearned) runs off 11 hits. Maxwell was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, Jaema Schimmels was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4. Madi Conrad was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

Hurley kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits every time they've taken the field this season.

Hurley now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Wheaton, their defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 2-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. We've got a battle between Tigers coming up. Exeter has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.14 runs per game on average), something Hurley will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Wheaton, they will face off against Greenfield at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
