The Flagler Panthers's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fifth straight loss. They had to suffer through a rough 73-41 loss at the hands of Burlington. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Flagler in their matchups with Burlington: they've now lost five in a row.
Flagler's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jaylie Stone, who scored 11 points along with four steals. Stone is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last six games she's played. Another player making a difference was Sydnie Berry, who scored four points along with six steals.
Flagler struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Burlington racked up 21 assists.
Trinitee Holmes was her usual excellent self, scoring 22 points along with six rebounds and four steals for Burlington. Holmes continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Lynzee Neal, who scored 18 points along with six assists and five rebounds.
Flagler has not been sharp recently, as they've lost six of their last eight matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-7 record this season. As for Burlington, the win was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-3.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Flagler will take on Kit Carson at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Burlington, they won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Byers at 2:30 p.m. on January 27th. Hopefully Byers focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 31 last Wednesday.
