Basketball Recap: Viera Extends Winning Streak to Four

Viera had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 19.7 points) and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Fayette Ware Wildcats, sneaking past 59-56. The win was all the more spectacular given the Hawks' disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 150th in Florida, while the Wildcats are ranked 22nd in Tennessee).

Despite the defeat, Fayette Ware saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Elijah Lowe almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine boards. Those 13 points set a new season-high mark for Lowe. Another player making a difference was Tarecous Stevens, who posted nine points and eight rebounds.

Viera is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season. As for Fayette Ware, with the loss, they broke their five-game winning streak and moved their record to 8-4.

Viera wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 64-43 defeat against Montgomery Bell Academy on the 28th. As for Fayette Ware, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 77-74 loss against Jasper on the 28th.
