The home team had come away the winner the last six times Crete and Lakeview had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Cardinals never let the Vikings get on the board and left with an 8-0 victory on Monday. Considering the Cardinals have won 15 matchups by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Not much got past Madynn Dunham, who gave up just a hit and racked up seven Ks to keep Lakeview off the board.
At the plate, Kacey Dunaway was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted over her last 15 games. The team also got some help courtesy of Makesha Smith, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Crete's record now sits at 21-5. As for Lakeview, their defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 13-6.
Looking ahead, Crete will take on Gross Catholic at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Cougars will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something the Cardinals surely won't give up without a fight. Lakeview does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
